Baja Sea Kayaking Tour
Trip Details
Baja
California is one of the best winter and spring destinations
for kayakers. This eight day adventure includes kayaking lessons,
multi-day paddling on the Sea of Cortez, snorkeling, relaxing
in tidal hot springs, hiking, mule rides in the local mountains,
and exploring uninhabited islands. These protected islands
are a part of the newly designated National Park of Loreto
and are world-famous for their beauty and the proliferation
of wildlife in the sea around them. Sightings of manta rays,
sea lions, dolphins, roosterfish, sea turtles, and sometimes
even a whale or two are common. With your guides' combined
Baja experience totaling well over 25 years, you can be assured
a wonderful and unique adventure. Outback Adventures provides,
food, kayaking equipment, group camping gear, and accommodations
(two nights hotel, five nights camping). No experience necessary.
Location: Our base camp is located in
a remote area of Baja Sur, about 750 miles south of the border
where the magnificent
Sierra Grande mountains meet the pristine waters of the Sea
of Cortez. The newly-designated National Park of Loreto was
created to protect the many islands in the Sea of Cortez.
These islands are world-famous for their beauty and the proliferation
of wildlife in the sea around them. They are home to large
numbers of unique species found nowhere else in the world.

What to Bring: Prepare for the weather
since days may be windy and/or warm. Contact us for a complete
recommendation
on what to bring.
Note: Bring what you need to be comfortable,
but try to limit the amount of baggage. We have a lot of
transporting
to do from the airport over the 4 wheel-drive road to our
remote site. Backpacks work well.
Level: Someone with average physical
ability, willing to camp out, who is enthusiastic, patient,
flexible and has
a sense of humor! No prior sea kayaking experience necessary
- we provide beginning lessons.
Climate and Weather: Expect beautiful
sunny weather in the 80 F range, but stormy winds can pop
up. Nights will be cool
- sometimes as low as the upper 40's F. Water temperature
is 60 F to 80 F in summer.
Food: Varied menu with three hearty
meals a day. Let us know of any dietary restrictions at
time of deposit.
Water: Comes from pure aquifers near
the town of Loreto. We haul in all our water. There will
be more than enough
to drink, but showering facilities are limited. We bathe
in sea water with a limited fresh water rinse.
Medical and Health: Bring your own
personal medicines and let us know beforehand of any medical
needs. Our remote location
makes civilization not quickly accessible, and our camp is
open to the elements.
Culture: Some of our guides are locals
from the area - fishermen and ranchers. Mule rides provide
a way to experience the
traditional mode of transportation. Meals will be shared
with local families. It is possible to visit a local fishing
village whose only access to town was by boat until 20 years
ago. The people are open and warm and appreciate any attempt
to converse with them in Spanish. A few key phrases learned
ahead of time can enrich your cultural experience.
Accommodations: Camping on the beach
- We can provide tents, sleeping bags and pads. We have
palapas (thatched huts) for
shade and rain protection. You will stay in a seaside hotel
room the nights after arrival, and before departure. Trip
costs are based on shared room occupancy. If you prefer single
accommodations, you must pay a supplemental fee and let us
know at the time of deposit.
Air Travel: You are responsible for
transportation to and from Loreto, Mexico. Aero California
Airlines is the only
airline that flies into Loreto from the United States. To
make reservations call 800-237-6225
Baja Kayaking Guides:

experience. She has taught basic kayaking classes for over 12 years.
She has been leading tour groups in this area of Baja for
nine years. She is a certified massage practitioner and
her skills are available for those who choose! "I
feel that this area of the Sea of Cortez is one of the
most beautiful places in the world. I can't put into words
what living here has done for my body, mind and soul, but
I sure would like to pass this profound experience on to
others who would like to share it with me."
John Janus - is a
recent convert to the area. He created, owned and operated
tours on a high-tech
catamaran in San
Francisco Bay for eight years. He has been exploring the

a really special place. I enjoy the remoteness and the pristine
beauty of the Sea of Cortez, where the subtle beauties of
the desert meet the ocean. And working with the local people
has been a unique, rewarding and enjoyable experience – I
am amazed at their ingenuity and pure love of life."
Martin Velez - has been leading mule
rides for a U.S.-based tour company for nine years. He
is presently
training to

excited about his new profession. He'll be happy to trade
you Spanish for English lessons!
